4B.1C Quality of Life Indices
The inequalities in pay levels across economic sectors and in different types of employment are reflected in quality of life indices.
In 2016 the annual uSwitch Quality of Life Index ranked Berkshire (Reading) 6th out of the 138 UK regions, but South Teeside (Middlesbrough) was ranked 129th.
Quality of life is usually measured using a composite index. The uSwitch Index combines housing affordability, energy costs, broadband availability, average incomes, crime rates and other measurements to rank UK regions.
